V-BERTH OPTIONS
Handcraft Mattress Company has developed a wide range of custom solutions that come from over 36 years of experience building boat beds. This page shows our full line of Innerspring, Pocket Coil, Latex, Gel Memory Foam and Foam style mattresses and thicknesses to meet every berth size and height. Each boat mattress is customized to your berth to insure a perfect fit and finger space for tucking bedding in. All our mattresses conveniently fold for easy transportation and installation on your boat; and the bottom side has a protective vinyl waterproof layer to prolong the life of the mattress.
V-BERTH STYLES
Style # 1 ONE-PIECE
1-Piece mattress is the least expensive to make, works best when there is no storage access needed. Also works well when the insert can be eliminated, allowing finger space on outside edge for installation and removal of bedding.
Style # 2 TWO-PIECE (A)
2-Piece mattress with seam down the center makes getting into storage easy. More logical for extremely large V-Berths. Zipper option holds mattress together, allowing finger space on outside edges for installation and removal of bedding.
Style # 3 TWO-PIECE (B)
2-Piece mattress with no insert. Used more as two beds. Possible zipper option or hinge-fold option will hold beds together to allow finger space on outside edges for easy installation and removal of bedding. If there is no storage below, it may be better to do 1 large piece.
Style # 4 THREE-PIECE WITH INSERT
3-Piece is the original style V-Berth which had more focus on accessing storage than a good night’s sleep. Oftentimes the insert cannot be eliminated because it is used for a dressing area. Possible zipper option or hinge-fold option on the two larger pieces will allow finger space on outside edges without pieces creeping apart.
Style # 5 ONE-PIECE WITH HINGE SIDE-TO-SIDE
1-Piece mattress with hinge side-to-side and no seams. Allows access to storage compartments underneath and finger space around edges for easy installation and removal of bedding.
Style # 6 TWO-PIECE: ONE BIG PIECE WITH HINGE SIDE-TO-SIDE & INSERT
2-Piece mattress 1 big piece with a hinge side-to-side and an insert (when your area requires an insert that can be removed for daily activity). The hinge allows storage access underneath and finger space around edges for easy installation and removal of bedding.
Style # 7 ONE-PIECE WITH HINGE HEAD-TO-TOE
1-Piece mattress with hinge-fold option head-to-toe, one of our more popular styles allowing no seams, with access to storage underneath and finger space around edges. Also works well with our straps and buckles option for easier installation and removal of bedding.
FOAM MATTRESSES
Our Handcraft Mattress Company value style line of Foam Mattresses are great for bunks, crew or guestroom beds. These foam mattresses are made of high-density Poly Q Foam; Gel Memory Foam over Poly Q Foam; or a Latex Poly combination. The foam mattresses are available in 4-7” thicknesses and includes vinyl marinization on the bottom of the mattress to waterproof the bed. Each mattress is customized to fit your boat space and comes with a 5-year limited lifetime warranty.
Standard Foam Mattress, 4 1/2″ – 6 1/2″
High-density Poly Q Foam comes in medium firm and extra firm densities. Great for Guest stateroom and Bunk cabins that don’t get a lot of use.

Gel Foam Poly Combination, 6″- 7″
2” Gel memory foam over 4”-5” high-density Poly Q Foam, makes a medium firm, low profile mattress but with the plushness of a gel memory foam feel.

LATEX MATTRESSES
Looking for an extra level of comfort? Our Latex mattresses gently conform to every contour of your body, providing optimal support and pressure relief. Offers live-aboard quality and a 10-15+ year life span. Latex is hypo-allergenic and mildew-proof, even in the most humid marine environments. Our custom marinization of each mattress adds a waterproof layer of vinyl material at the bottom of each mattress. We offer Dunlopillo and Talalay Latex mattresses. Dunlopillo is a better value for the money, but Talalay Latex has a plusher, more buoyant feel and is available in a greater range of densities. Although the Talalay process takes longer and consumes more energy than the Dunlopillo process, the two additional process steps improve the feel, quality and consistency of the finished Latex.
Dunlopillo Latex is denser, which makes it a bit firmer than Talalay, so Talalay is a good choice if you like a soft, more buoyant feel. A combination of the two is also an option with our Talalay Premium Plush Latex mattress with a Talalay Latex base for firmer support and a 2” soft Talalay Latex Plush top for a truly luxurious feel.
Standard Dunlopillo Latex
Dunlopillo Latex is a denser rubber and a bit firmer than Talalay Latex. It is hypo-allergenic and mildew proof. Works great in a marine environment. A good value and a long-lasting mattress.

Standard Talalay Pillow-Top Latex
Talalay Latex is our most popular low-profile mattress that has a plusher feel and is available in more densities. It is hypo-allergenic and mildew proof. Works great in a marine environment. Talalay Latex process takes longer to make and is slightly more expensive. It offers a more buoyant feel and a long-lasting mattress.

Our best Latex offers a 2” soft layer over a 4”-5” firm base with upgraded pillowtop for a very plush top and firm base so you don’t bottom out. Popular for a plush, low profile mattress at 7 ½” thick. It has a Cool Touch® Bamboo fabric cover, is hypo-allergenic and mildew proof. Works great in a marine environment.

Our patent-pending straps and buckles design makes placing and removing sheets on hinge-fold mattresses easy. Use the attached straps to pull mattress up and lower back into space

Our sheet snaps are a convenient addition for V-Berth spaces with inside corners where elastic won’t hold on sheets. Our snaps securely keep sheets in place
VELCRO FASTENER $100
Ideal for beds with no keeper rails, our Velcro Fastener installs on the bottom of your mattress and keeps it from shifting around
EXTENSIONS (per side) $200
Add up to 4 additional inches in length and width to your mattress for a perfect custom fit. Perfect for walk-arounds, works well with keeper rails that are less than half the thickness of the mattress
